Welcome to our Year 1 Class Page. This is home to all of the amazing learning that takes place in our Kingfishers Class.
Our Year 1 team is made up of Mrs Pearce, Miss Butcher, Miss Allwood and Mrs Smith.
In our Year One Class, we aim to deliver an ambitious, well sequenced and progressive curriculum that enables children to build upon prior knowledge, understanding and skills, resulting in them being able to know more and remember more across the curriculum subjects.
On Thursday 19th December, our year 1 children went for a walk in our local environment as part of their Geography learning. The children were learning about landmarks and finding key landmarks on maps. Armed with their checklist of landmarks to find, the children set off on a walk. During the walk, our children were surprised with the local Fire Station opening up for them to see the Fire Engines. When back at school, the children looked at a map of the local environment and plotted the key landmarks.
What a fantastic first hand learning experience!
Woodland Adventure
On Friday 20th September, our year 1 class went on a 'Woodland Adventure' to Dauntsey School. The children explored the woodland environment and engaged in a variety of outdoor learning activities, including natural art, looking at wildlife and their habitats and team building activities. To finish off the session, the children had hot chocolate and biscuits around the campfire. The children had a fantastic time.
When we returned from our trip, the children wrote a recount of their Woodland Adventure. The children practiced orally telling their recounts before they wrote them.
Term 1 Learning
In Year One, our History Unit this term is 'The importance of the First Moon Landing'.
The children have been learning about the lives of significant people, including Mae Jamison. The children thought carefully about adjectives that best describe Mae Jamison and the work that she did. Here are some photos to showcase the learning that took place:
In Term One, we held 'Parent Curriculum Meetings' which were an opportunity for all parents to come into school so see what their children will be learning across the academic year. Please find a copy of the presentations below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher.
The document below provides information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for children in our school.
